Brazilian Jiu-jitsu was introduced to the Gracie family in Brazil around 1914 by Esai Maeda (Conde Koma). Maeda was a champion of Jiu-Jitsu and a direct student of Kano, at the Kodokan in Japan. For in depth detail into the history of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu click here.
BJJSA was started on the 13th of July 2013, out of the desire to see more people participating in the fast growing, exciting sport with the goal of attracting every Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym and club in South Africa to participate in events and functions.
